18K Yellow Gold Crownwork® Framed Sardonyx Three Wise Monkeys Pendant
"See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil." The three wise monkeys trace back to a 17th century carving over the door of Japan's Tōshōgū Shrine. A proverb about guarding the mind and spirit that has traveled the world ever since. The stone carries its own legend: sardonyx was named among the foundation stones of the New Jerusalem and worn since Roman times as a talisman of protection and clear speech, a fitting home for a proverb about watching one's words.
Each carving begins by hand before a negative mold captures every detail. From this mold, a copper stamp is created for the design and then the remarkable part: placed atop the stone in an ultrasonic machine, the copper plate carves the image directly into the sardonyx using sound waves, a marriage of ancient artistry and precision technology.
The carved stone is framed in our signature Crownwork®, and finished with a detachable bale so the pendant moves easily between chains and strands.
