Frequently Asked Questions
Orders
Jewelry that is in stock will ship 2 day, all packages have to be signed for upon delivery. Custom orders take around 4 weeks to produce and ship.
We will work with you before you finalize your order to make sure your ring is the correct size, we offer 1 free resize after this. All resizing is done in the studio so the turnaround is very quick.
RINGS
Rings should fit your finger comfortably, feel nice and snug so they won’t fall off and slip over your knuckle with some resistance. If you don’t know your ring size and cannot get to a local jewelry store to have your finger sized, then you can measure your finger at home using a piece of string. Take a piece of string, wrap it around the base of the finger you intend to wear your ring on and mark where the string first overlaps with a pen. Then line that up with a ruler and take down the measurement in mm.
** string can stretch so try not to pull it too taut when measuring your finger. The best time to measure your finger is in the morning when your body is cool.
BRACELETS
All of our bracelets are between 7-8” depending on the style. If your wrist runs smaller or larger we can easily resize these for you. You can use the same string method above to measure your wrist size and we can work with you on the perfect size for your bracelet. We are here to help you with all your sizing needs, drop us a line at orders@raygriffiths.com with any questions and we will work with you to find the perfect size.

Jewelry
All of the gold we use is certified eco-responsible, recycled metal. Unlike mining, where approximately 20 tons of waste is generated to produce just one ounce of gold, refining precious metals has virtually no waste.
All our stones are ethically sourced (mined) and Ray loves to find a new jewelry life for as many vintage stones as possible.
Amidst the designers on Fifth Avenue, Ray Griffiths Fine Jewelry stands apart with our signature Crownwork®, a distinctive grid-like pattern that features in all of our designs. This technique adds strength while reducing weight, resulting in large statement pieces that can comfortably be worn every day, not just reserved for special occasions.
The inspiration behind Crownwork® comes from Ray Griffiths' early training in restoring vintage European jewelry, blending heritage with innovation to offer elegance and wearability.
Fine jewelry is a lifelong investment with sentimental value, to maintain your jewels here are some tips and tricks.

Studio & Custom Work

In our initial appointment we will discuss your project and workshop ideas to bring your vision to life. The best part of custom jobs is collaborating on the design process. A hand sketch and/or CAD mold will be created before the piece is cast depending on the design and any stones required will be approved also. Market prices of materials fluctuate so an estimate will be provided but final price will depend on costs at time of production. We keep you informed and up to date on each stage of the project.
Essentially, refurbishing is a delicate and intricate process that involves restoring your valued pieces to their original glory. More than just routine cleaning, refurbishing ensures every detail of the material and every gemstone is secure, primed for continuous wear. We examine and inspect your pieces to determine the quality and stability of the jewels and make a determination on the best course moving forward from there.
Even if your jewelry isn't damaged, chances are that it's scratched and possibly tarnished. Jewelry refurbishing cleans the item up and makes it bright and ready for wear or sale.
The jewelry is buffed out by a professional using electric polishing mops of varying types, which gently rub the surface and removes scratches. If the item had a particular finish, such as a brushed or matte finish, we can refinish with that look.
Inherited jewelry can be quite dirty from years of being worn and sitting in storage. To clean it, we put most items into an ultrasonic cleaner, which is a large tank of water that blasts the jewelry with bubbles generated from soundwaves. The bubbles reach areas that cannot be cleaned by hand, and knock out any grime or dirt stuck in those crevices with a lubricating detergent. They come up looking brand new and ready for their new life.
We can work together to re-envision and design a piece that feels more like you. We can convert rings to pendants and have created a bracelet from a selection of cufflinks. The options are endless, here are some bespoke pieces we have worked on in the past. Solid gold pieces can also be melted down and recreated into something brand new!

Sustainability
In mining to produce just 1 ounce of gold approximately 20 tons of waste is generated. This is why we choose to use refined or ‘recycled’ gold. The process of refining gold involves melting down reclaimed gold jewelry or objects to reuse this precious metal. Once melted down the impurities are removed resulting in pure gold (24 karat). The gold is then combined with alloy to create different karat grades of gold. We choose to use 18k yellow gold in all our products as the color is a distinctly beautiful shade. It is both durable for the wearer and pliable for our skilled goldsmith.
If you are interested in melting down your gold pieces and creating something new, contact us to book an appointment in-person at our New York studio or online. With Ray’s expertise he can evaluate your pieces and create a new design for you, extending the lifecycle of your gold into something new to be worn every day.
As described in detail above we use only certified eco-responsible refined 18k yellow gold to minimize our ecological footprint. We source all our stones from verified sources and often undertake custom jobs with vintage stones.
Our jewelry is delivered to you in plush reusable pouches and ring boxes. Plus, all our gift packaging uses recycled materials and can be composted.
All our colored stones and diamonds are ethically sourced from verified sources. We also work with client’s own stones that can be re-cut and fashioned into any style the client desires.
We have recently started using lab grown diamonds in some of our pieces and are thrilled with the result. All our jewels which use lab grown diamonds will be acknowledged as such in the description. Lab-growns are a way of securing ethically produced diamonds and we source these from dealers in New York supporting local business.
