This is a 18k yellow gold Crownwork® Edwardian ring with prong set natural pink zircon and pave diamond surround in oxidized silver. This is Ray’s take on a classic British Regency Ring, he loves making these rings because they are extremely comfortable, timeless and very chic. The shank is arched to fit over the webbing on the finger, so it sits close to the knuckle on the hand and elongates the fingers. Oxidized silver has a beautiful historic feel for jewelry ( think Austro-Hungarian empire ) and is a wonderful contrast to gold. It looks rich and strong and as a setting material it’s soft and easy to bezel stones in deep. When it’s oxidized it is really polished black so the stone pop with rich saturated color and look luxurious.
Zircon is the oldest mineral on earth, the name comes from the Persian word ‘zargun’ which means ‘gold colored’, although they come in a variety of colors, the richest being from Cambodia. Zircon is the natural form of what people call ‘cubic zirconia’; which is a synthesized version. Diamond is a very precious gemstone, diamonds take billions of years to form deep within the Earth’s crust under conditions of intense heat and pressure that cause carbon atoms to crystallise, forming diamonds.
