Gold Rush

Its no secret that I love Gold.  Its by far my favorite metal to work with and it makes up the bulk of my collection,  I only use 18k Yellow Gold in my designs.                  18k is comprised of 75% gold and 25% alloy, it has a rich tone to it and gives a very luxurious feel to jewelry when you wear it.

Here are a few fun facts about Gold

1. Gold is said to be so rare that the world pours more steel in an hour than it has poured gold since time began.

2. A one-ounce gold nugget is more rare to find than a five-carat diamond

3. A single ounce of gold can be drawn into a wire 60 miles long

4. In every cubic mile of sea water there is 25 tonnes of gold!  That’s a total of about 10 billion tonnes of golf in the oceans; however, there’s no known way to economically recover it.  So if you you’re a strong swimmer get to it!!!!

Lately I have been having so much fun creating different shapes in gold and just playing with them.  Here are some of my favorite 3d crownwork shapes.

I use these in all my designs and I love to mix and match them and use them as accents in necklaces and features in earrings.  The possibilities are endless.

And here are some of my favorite new designs using my all time favorite GOLD!

Regency Rings

Inspiration: Regency Rings

I spent some time looking back through history at old European jewels,  I went through my library of books and studied royal jewelry for inspiration.  I wanted to start with something formal and go from there.  Watching Downton Abbey sparked a design fire in my brain, I love that British Regency period.

These rings are very elongated, I love the length. It cuts back over the arch of your hand.  Then my architectural sensibilities set in and I added in a linear curve, all the curves and line on this ring match, its seamless.

For the stones I went with two different approaches.  A very classical approach as illustrated by the sapphire and diamond ring below and a very 60s modern approach with diamonds and ovals illustrated by the black diamond and moonstone ring.

The possibilities for this ring are infinite and thats why I love it so much.

Trunk showstoppers!

The definition of a trunk show is “a sales event for showing merchandise to staff or select customers”

The definition of my life is endless trunk shows, I spend more than half my life traveling to stores and hanging out with the staff, slinging jewels, making new friends and spending time with treasured collectors of my jewelry.  I am always so grateful that people take time out of their lives to come see me.  I love connecting with people and I love sharing my work.

Over the past few months I have been to Carmel @ Cayen Collection, Manchester by the Sea a@ Gladstone, Jackson Hole @ Belle Cose, Oklahoma @ Naifeh , Sacramento @ Hamilton Pavilions  and Pittsburgh @ Choices.

I always try every piece on at each stage of production and wear it around the office for a few hours, I love to get a real feel of each jewel and connect with it.

More is more is always my motto.

The most sentimental jewel I own is my grandfathers wedding ring.  I am very dyslexic and when I was young telling left from right could be challenging.  So my mother put this ring on my left hand so I would always know which way to go.

I like to infuse a little bit of sentimentality in every jewel I produce, my jewelry should feel familiar when you wear it.

Ray Watch

I wear a watch every day, its a TAG Hueur and it was a treat to myself.
